Australia battling fitness concerns ahead of T20 World Cup

Two of the most seasoned players from Australia have sustained injuries during this year’s IPL, which is taking place less than two months before their opening match at the T20 World Cup.

Only a few weeks remain before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup begins, and Australia is keeping an eye on the injuries to two important players.

Due to a hamstring injury, all-rounder Mitch Marsh had to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) in order to complete his recovery in Australia.

Although Marsh is anticipated to recover in time for Australia’s opening T20 World Cup encounter against Oman on June 5, it is unclear if the 32-year-old will travel back to India and play for the Delhi Capitals during the latter stages of the IPL.

For Delhi, Marsh has only scored 20, 23, 18, and 0 in four innings, but he will be an important part of Australia’s team when the ninth edition of the 20-over showcase begins in the USA and Caribbean in June.

Prior to the T20 World Cup, Marsh is anticipated to be named Australia’s full-time captain in the shortest format. Coach Andrew McDonald stated last month that Marsh, a hard-hitting No. 3 who has shown promise in recent series against the West Indies and New Zealand, was an obvious choice for the position.

Regarding the open T20 captaincy position, McDonald stated, “I think all roads will lead to Mitch, so just got to get that ticked off in certain areas.”

“The way he’s been able to perform with that T20 team has us pleased and at ease.

“We think he’s the leader for the World Cup, and I think that will just be a matter of due course.”

David Warner, a seasoned Australian opener who injured his finger while batting in the IPL on Friday, is another top-order batsman with an injury complaint.

Warner’s status is being checked ahead of his team’s upcoming game against the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday after he was struck on the finger while batting for the Delhi Capitals against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Warner and Travis Head will probably bat first for Australia in this year’s T20 World Cup.
